The park of Tassili N’Ajjer<\/a><\/strong> (“plateau of the rivers” in the Touareg language)<\/strong> and<\/strong> the Tadrart Rouge region<\/a><\/strong> (“red mountains” because of the colour of the rock formations and the sand) are situated at a high altitude (an average of over 1200 meters) and are<\/strong> real geological, artistic and cultural treasures of the Sahara desert in southeastern Algeria<\/a><\/strong> (near Niger and Libya) which offer breathtaking landscapes and a window into humanity’s distant past.<\/p>\n

These regions of the Tassili N’Ajjer and Tadrart Rouge<\/strong> are remote and very difficult to access – and therefore very few people have yet been able to visit them- with some<\/strong> sublime and grandiose lunar landscapes<\/strong> (a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982) and are considered to be the largest open-air museum of prehistoric art with over 15,000 paintings and engravings dating back more than 12,000 years<\/strong>!<\/p>\n
