You have arrived at Tunis-Carthage airport and now what?

Once you have collected your luggage, we recommend that you exchange euros for Tunisian dinars and buy a local SIM card to stay connected (see next 2 paragraphs).

Don’t worry if the bank and telephone offices are closed or if you can’t find them you will find them the next day in Tunis.

If you have to take a taxi from the airport to Tunis, you can pay in euros. The airport is about 10km from the city center, and it usually takes less than 20 minutes.

The taxi fare is 30 DT for your reference, so don’t pay more than 20€ (in 10- or 20-euro notes). Negotiate the price before getting into the taxi. The people there speak Arabic and most of them understand French and  few of them English.

Once you have arrived in Tunisia, how to obtain Tunisian dinar so that you can pay in cash

It is recommended that you exchange euros for the local currency, the Tunisian dinar, on arrival at the airport or, if this is not possible, at a bank in the center of Tunis or in the city where you are staying.

You can also pay by credit card in hotels or restaurants of a certain level.

For the rest you will use the cash you have exchanged. Keep the receipts when you change in the banks, they will ask you for them when you leave and want to change your dinars back into euros.

How to have your WHATSPAPP operational in Tunisia?

To be able to communicate via WhatsApp, it is recommended that you purchase a Tunisia T elecom SIM card (passport required) on arrival at the airport or in the center of Tunis here

The price and conditions are very reasonable, and you will already be connected.
